Public Transport The Netherlands have quite a sufficient public transportation system that covers the whole country. You can either catch a bus, train, tram, metro, night bus or night train. Of course the convenient choice depends on the location you want to go to.

Keep in mind! On December 31st public transport runs until 20:00 hours.
Public Transport card The new public transport smart card system is called the OV-chipkaart. You can almost travel anywhere within The Netherlands by loading your OV-chipkaart with credit at a ticket office of the bus, train or underground statiouns or in a vending machine.
There are three different cards:
- The personal OV-chip card, which is for registered customers.
- The anonymous OV-chip card, which can be purchased at all underground, bus or train stations or in a vending machine.
- The disposable OV-chip card, which has a predetermined validity. This card cannot be reloaded. This card can be bought at the vending machines, at all underground, bus or train stations or in the bus or tram.

Railway
The train is the most convenient and flexible way to reach major cities and airports. If you plan to live in the Netherlands for at least a year, consider a railway consider a subscription which can offer a 40% discount during off-peak hours, or during the weekends. Moreover, the discount is valid for up to three of your travel companions.
