Going to a restaurant
 
In The Netherlands, going to a restaurant is generally seen as a night out and not as a quick way to eat food. The quality food of modern Dutch restaurants is good, but relatively expensive compared to surrounding countries.


Tips
 
Service fees and taxes are included in menu prices. So tipping is not obligated in Dutch restaurants and bars. However, rounding up your bill is considered polite. The Dutch usually tip 5 to 10 %.

Dutch ‘pannenkoeken’ or pancakes are quite different from the French crêpes, Russian blini’s or American pancakes.  In Aalsmeer the Expat Center recommends a pancake restaurant  called Het Aalsmeerse Pannenkoekenhuis. The menu offers a variety of sweet and spicy pancakes. This restaurant is the ideal location for a children’s birthday party. Dutch pancakes at the Aalsmeerse Pannenkoekenhuis  are treat for the whole family!
